This weekend saw the UKU Club Mixed Indoor Nationals taking place in Coventry at the Alan Higgs Centre, with Sheffield Steal finishing a very respectable 8th place.  

Starting 13th, Steal were always in for a tough ride to challenge at the top but started well with a win over Bears Reloaded.  This was enough to earn a place in the 8v9 cross-over on Sunday morning against Brixton Angels, who had won the pool game between the two teams 7-4.  The Steal players put in the performance of their lives to come from behind to win 7-6 (sudden death) and secure a top eight finish.

The rest of the day didn't go quite so well for Steal with three defeats but the players can take pride in their performances after losing to eventual runners-up Bear Cavalry, and losing the last two games by just one point.

Sheffield Steal will be competing in their first tournament of 2010 this coming weekend.  Club Mixed Indoor Nationals is taking place in Coventry - results will be on here next week.

Phat 'eds and Hallam sent one team each to University Open Outdoor Regionals in Manchester this weekend and both had some good performances to ensure qualification to BUCS Nationals Division 2.  The team from Hallam took the final qualification spot, finishing 6th, whilst Phat 'eds finished one place above them in 5th.

This weekend saw 24 teams descend on Sheffield for the annual 80s-themed tournament, Mix & Mingle.  Of the local teams to enter, Don't Let Go and Tatty Bojangles lost the final and plate final respectively, whilst Naughty Strawberries won their final to take home the spoon prize.  The relatively inexperienced Hallam and Phat 'ed teams finished 16th and 24th.  Click here for the full write-up.

Sheffield University Phat 'eds took a couple of teams up to Newcastle this weekend for University Mixed Indoor Regionals.  Runners-up in 2009, the Phat 'eds first team were hoping for a repeat performance but unfortunately were unable to succeed but did qualify for Nationals Division 2 by finishing 8th.

There was a good session in Hillsborough Park today, despite the majority of student players being away in Newcastle.  The session involved a number of basic drills and a couple of matches, and it was good to see some new players getting involved too!  All the Steal Mixed session plans will be available on this site soon.

As January draws to a close, there is a lot going on in the world of Sheffield Ultimate.  This weekend sees the first University tournament of 2010 as the teams head to Newcastle for Mixed Indoor Regionals.  Check back here next week for the results to that one.

Saturday also sees the return of Steal training, starting at 10am in Hillsborough Park.  Steal have entered UKU Club Mixed Indoor Nationals, taking place in Coventry late in February, and Mix & Mingle returns next weekend.
